Tips to Party Smart
Love Animal House or Old School? College partying can be the best, but make sure you do it smart, so you do not get kicked out of college or your parents pull you out!
• If you choose to drink, take care of yourself and your friends.
• Always travel to and from social activities in a group.Use the buddy system. Stay together. Do not go out alone. Never leave your friends behind at a party.
• It is recommended that you have at least one sober person in your group.
• Know the rules on your campus, some schools will kick you out for drinking on campus.
• Remain calm, don’t lie and be respectful if stopped by police.
• When you arrive home or to your residence hall, do not call unneeded attention to yourself.
• Don’t be afraid to call 911 if you feel someone is having difficulty breathing, passing out or any other level of unconsciousness, has cold clammy skin, has bluish tint on lips and fingernails, or is vomiting while passed out or sleeping.
• If you are unable to walk, call a taxi or Campus Escort. If your campus has an escort service for late-night travel around campus, use it. They’re free and in place to help you stay safe -- even if you’re not 100% sober. However, you should always carry money on you, in case you need to get a taxi.
• Always eat before you drink. Alcohol on an empty stomach can impact you even more quickly.
• Count your drinks. Know your own limits and set them for yourself before you start drinking and your judgment is impaired.
• Slow down your drinking and minimize the dehydrating effects of alcohol by drinking plenty of water. This will help hangovers in the morning.
• Be careful if drinking from a common punch bowl. Never leave your drink unattended or accept drinks for someone you do not know or trust. You may not be aware of how strong the drinks are or if they slipped something in your drink.
· Beer Pong: 4 players per game acquire a pitcher of beer or alcohol and a long table with 12 classic drinking game red plastic cups that are set up on at the end of the table on either side in a triangle formation (similar to bowling pins). Each player tries to toss a ping pong ball into the opposing team’s cup and if they get it in, the other team must remove that cup, drink its contents, and the game is over when one team’s cups are completely gone and drank. When a player gets a ball into a cup, they get to shoot again until they miss. Beer pong is the most popular game on campuses.
· Beer Roulette: Similar to Russian roulette, someone gets a beer for every player of the game. They shake one of the beers up and then mixes up the cans or bottles so none of the players know which can was shaken. Once the beers are distributed everyone opens their beers facing their faces. If a player gets sprayed from the shaken beer, they are eliminated from the game, play continues until only one person remains dry at the end and is announced as the winner.
· Buffalo Club: Players cannot hold an alcoholic drink in their left hand, if someone calls out “Buffalo Club” when a player is holding a drink in their right hand the player must drink the entire contents of the cup with their right hand. Once someone gets called out and they finish their drink the game switches to the left hand, and so on, to cause greater confusion.
· Edward 40 Hands: Players duck tape 40-ounce malt liquor cans to their hands, and they cannot use their hands to do normal activities (use the restroom, text message on their cell phones, eat, etc.) until the cans are empty.
· Flip Cup: Acquire a pitcher of beer or hunch punch and a table that is long enough for two teams of equal numbers to stand side by side and face off to the opposing team. Distribute a couple shots of beer or hunch punch to each player in a classic drinking game red plastic cup. With their cup in hand the first player of each team chugs their cup contents and races to flip the cup using their index and middle from the upside down position to the right-side up position. When one player successfully flips their cup, the chain continues down the team line until the final team member has flipped their cup, winning the game for their team.
· King’s Cup: A card game where each card represents a different action. Cards are spread out around a central cup and players take turns drawing the cards.
A-Waterfall: I usually choose to make the ace the rule card, but I will describe both variants.
Waterfall is a game where everyone starts chugging their beer/drink. You may not stop until the person to your immediate right stops. The person who draws the card may stop first.
2 – You: Choose someone to drink
3 – Me: You drink
4-Whores: All girls in the circle drink
5-Hand Jive: A silly game where players take turns making any gesture they would like, while the next person repeats that gesture and comes up with their own. The gestures keep adding up until someone messes up, and thus must drink.
6-Dicks: All men drink
7-Heaven: All players point to the ceiling, last person to point has to drink
8-Mate: Pick a person to be your “drinking mate”. Everytime you are forced to drink, they must drink too.
9-Rhyme: Players take turns going counter-clockwise rhyming a phrase. A person who stutters or cannot come up with a new rhyme within a few seconds of the last rhyme said will have to drink.
10-I’ve Never: You may have heard these rules before. Players hold up 5 fingers and take turns going clockwise saying different things they’ve never done. If any of the players in the circle have done a particular action – they must put a finger down. Person who loses all fingers drinks.
J-Catergories: The drawing player calls out a category such as “Japanese Car Brands”. Take turns going clockwise calling out different things that fall into that category (i.e. “Toyota, “Honda”, “Mitsubishi”). The person who stumbles, repeats what someone has said already, or cannot come up with something must drink.
Q-Questions:Questions is a game where the drawing players starts off by making direct eye contact with a player and asking a rapid fire question. The person who is looked at must immediately look at another player and say any rapid fire question they can. The person who breaks the cycle, laughs, stutters, or stumbles must drink.
K-King’s Cup: The most deadly of cards.
The drawing player will pour as much beer or really anything alcohol into the central cup to their heart’s desire. This repeats until the final King is drawn. The player who draws the final king must consume the entirety of everything poured out by the previous three players.
· Power Hour: Pour out 60, 1.5-ounce shots of beer, per player, per round. Create a soundtrack or video in advance set to change to a different a song or video every 59 seconds when played. Every minute each player must take a shot of beer when the song or video changes. This may sound easy, until players realize that the combination of the quick pace and 90-ounces of beer will test even the greatest drinker’s endurance.
· Quarters: Players sit down at a table and take turns trying to bounce quarters into shot glasses or cups. Every time they miss getting a quarter into their goal, they take a sip, and for every time they get their quarter into someone else’s goal that other person has to take a sip.
· F*** the Dealer With three or more people, you start by shuffling a deck of cards and picking a dealer. Going clockwise, the dealer will ask the person next to them to guess the card. If they guess wrong, the dealer will ask them if it’s higher or lower than the card they guessed. The dealer lays down the card face-up, creating a line of cards organized by number and face, and the guesser has to drink the difference from the number they guessed to the actual card. The dealer will repeat two more times and pass the deck to the next person. If the guesser gets the card right, the dealer has to drink for three or more seconds and holds on to the deck until three people guess wrong. The game continues while one dealer inevitably gets screwed by the players easily guessing the card.
· Sloshball/Dizzy Bat: Pour beer or hunch punch into a hollow plastic kids baseball toy bat, the first player up to bat chugs the bat’s contents then puts the bat down and spins around 3 times with the bat pressed to their forehead. The pitcher pitches them a wiffle ball and the game continues like baseball.
